Choosing A REALTOR®...

Choosing the Right REALTOR®: Why It Matters More Than You Think

At first glance, choosing a REALTOR® might not feel like the most important decision in your buying or selling journey. Some people pick a name they recognize, go with the first person they meet, or even choose at random.

But here’s the truth: this is someone you’ll be working closely with for the next 30–60 days (and sometimes longer). During that time, you’ll be discussing finances, negotiating price and repairs, and making decisions that directly impact one of your largest investments.

That’s not something to leave to chance.

More Than Just a Transaction

A real estate transaction involves much more than showing homes or putting a sign in the yard.

Your REALTOR® helps manage:

  • Contract timelines and deadlines
  • Earnest money deposits
  • Inspections and negotiations
  • Appraisals
  • Closing coordination
  • And so much more behind the scenes

There are a lot of moving parts, and missing even one detail can create unnecessary stress—or cost you money.

It’s About Trust and Connection

This is why it’s so important to choose someone you genuinely like and trust.

You’ll be communicating often—sometimes daily. Questions will come up. Concerns will come up. And there will be moments where you need honest advice, not just easy answers.

If you already know your REALTOR®, that’s a great start. If not, take the time to find someone you feel comfortable with.

Availability Matters

Real estate doesn’t always happen between 9 and 5.

Most buyers are scheduling showings after work, evenings, or weekends. That means your REALTOR® needs to be available when you are—not just for showings, but also for conversations, decisions, and signing documents.

Having someone responsive and accessible can make all the difference.

When Things Get Complicated

Because they will.

No transaction is ever perfectly smooth. Issues come up—inspection surprises, appraisal concerns, financing hiccups, last-minute questions.

That’s when you really see the value of your REALTOR®.

You want someone who:

  • Communicates clearly
  • Keeps everything on track
  • Advocates for your best interests
  • Isn’t afraid to have the tough conversations
  • And goes to bat for you when it matters most

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes that clients don’t always see—but it plays a huge role in getting you to the closing table successfully.

More Than “Just Paperwork”

There’s a common misconception that REALTORS® just “push papers.”

I wish it were that simple.

A great REALTOR® is managing details, solving problems, negotiating on your behalf, and guiding you through every step of the process—all while keeping your goals front and center.

I once had a client tell me, “You work hard for your money.”
That meant a lot—because it’s true. And it’s something I take seriously for every client I work with.

Choose With Intention

Don’t pick a REALTOR® out of a hat.

Take the time to find someone who:

  • You trust
  • You can communicate with easily
  • Will be available when you need them
  • And will represent you with professionalism and honesty from start to finish

Because this isn’t just a transaction—it’s a partnership.

And having the right person by your side is truly priceless.
