Preparing for Closing Day: Your Final Steps as a Buyer

The big day is almost here! Closing day is when you officially become the owner of your new home. As a buyer, there are a few key things you’ll want to do to make sure everything goes smoothly—and to set yourself up for a stress-free move-in.

  • Schedule Utilities: Call ahead to set up your electricity, water, gas, internet, and any other essential services. Aim to have them switched into your name on or just before closing day so your home is ready from the moment you get the keys.
  • Book Movers or Arrange Help: Whether you’re hiring professionals or enlisting friends and family, get your moving day on the calendar. The earlier you schedule, the more options you’ll have.
  • Final Walkthrough: Your realtor will help you schedule a final walkthrough of the property, usually within 24 hours of closing. This is your chance to make sure everything is as agreed and no last-minute issues have popped up.
  • Review Your Closing Disclosure: Double-check the final breakdown of costs, and make sure you know the amount you’ll need to bring to closing. Ask your lender or realtor if you have any questions.
  • Gather Your Documents: Bring a valid photo ID, proof of homeowners insurance, and any paperwork your lender or title company requires. Having everything ready will help your closing go smoothly.

Closing day is the finish line—but also the exciting starting point for your new life in your home. With a little preparation, you’ll be ready to celebrate and settle in right away!
